Serve, Support, and Give Back

We love hosting events, and we love when our incredible volunteer team helps us spread the word and make them a success! Whether you’re engaging with attendees, setting up, or helping behind the scenes, your support makes a real impact.

What to Expect as an Event Volunteer:

  • Attend the Event – Most of our events last just a few hours, but for longer ones, we offer flexible shifts so you can choose a time that works for you.

  • Help Spread the Word – Share the event with your friends, family, coworkers, and battle buddies to help us reach more people.

  • Assist at Our Booth – Work alongside one of our board members at an information table, helping answer questions and engage with attendees.

  • Prepare Event Materials – Help pack gift bags, set up raffles, or organize other essential event items.

Every event is a chance to connect, serve, and support our mission—and we couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers!

  • Are there physical requirements?
Most of our volunteer opportunities do not require heavy lifting or strenuous activity. However, some roles—such as setting up events or packing care packages—may involve lifting boxes, standing for extended periods, or other physical tasks. If you have any concerns, please reach out, and we’ll help find the best fit for you!
  • Do I need to sign a wavier?
Sometimes, but this is event specifics and will be communicated before hand. Minors need a parent or guardian's signature.

  • Are there age requirements?
In general, there are no age requirements and we welcome everyone. However, the following guidelines for minors do apply: If you are a sophomore in high school or younger, a parent, legal guardian, or designated adult must be present for the duration of the event. If you are a junior or senior in high school, and under 18, you may volunteer independently after a waiver is signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Are volunteers allowed to bring guests?
Volunteers should only bring guests who are also registered as volunteers. Some events may allow for guests, but this will depend on the activity and space available. Please check event details in advance.
  • What is the policy on conduct and professionalism?
We expect all volunteers to conduct themselves with professionalism, respect, and integrity. This includes: Treating fellow volunteers, staff, and event attendees with kindness and respect. Refraining from disruptive, disrespectful, or inappropriate behavior. Representing Support Over Stigma in a positive manner while volunteering. Failure to follow these expectations may result in removal from volunteer opportunities.
  • Do you provide transportation?
No, volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from events. In some cases, carpooling may be an option, and we encourage volunteers to coordinate with each other when possible. We are actively working to secure a Ford Transit to help support transportation needs for larger volunteer efforts. Stay tuned for updates!
  • What is your policy on alcohol, smoking, and drug use?
As strong advocates for healthy coping mechanisms, we do not permit: Alcohol consumption at our events. Smoking, vaping, or drug use of any kind, including legal substances such as marijuana, at any volunteer activity or event location. We ask that all volunteers respect this policy to help maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for everyone.
  • How much time do I need to commit?
It depends on the role! Some events are a few hours, while ongoing roles may require regular involvement. Please note that some events, such as resources fairs, involve long periods of standing.
  • What if I can’t make my shift?
Life happens and we understand, please notify us as soon as possible so we can adjust assignments. Support Over Stigma does reserve the right to refuse volunteer service after numerous repeated call offs.
  • Are there leadership opportunities?
Yes! Dedicated volunteers can become event coordinators, team leads, or committee members. Let us know if you're interested!

This includes, but is not limited to: Repeated tardiness or failure to show up for scheduled shifts without notice.
